Why and When Do I Need to Change My Tires for the Season?

Fall/winter tire change: Winter swaps: Oct 1st – Nov 30th (1 business day notice). Typical Winter Season: October 1 – April 30. Snow tires, also known as "winter tires," are crucial for vehicle safety in snowy, icy, or frigid climates. They improve road grip, enhancing the effectiveness of safety features like anti-lock brakes, all-wheel drive, and traction control.

The best time to put on winter tires is usually October 1 – December 15. However, it's better to do it late than not at all, especially in Colorado where heavy snows often occur in March and April.

Spring/summer tire change: Spring swaps: April 1st – May 31st (1 business day notice). Typical Summer Season: May 1 – September 30. Snow tires wear out quickly in the summer due to the special materials used for winter performance. They start to break down, leading to poor cornering and grip. Switching to summer tires improves performance and preserves winter tires for future use.

The best time to put on summer tires is generally April 1 – May 31. Timing may vary based on driving conditions. For mountain residents or spring skiing enthusiasts, a later swap may be preferable. Again, it's better to do it late than not at all!
